Denver Instrumental trio ABANDONS draw inspiration from physical landscapes and cinema as grist for their expansive composition, brooding atmospheric textures, and devastating heaviness. Uniting in Denver in 2019, Brenton Dwyer (guitar), Nate Colbert (bass), and Samuel Mowat (drums, samples, tape loops) began writing with the intent to give equal voice to their respective instruments in the absence of lyrics. The result is a sound where Dwyer’s loop-heavy guitar work finds its home between angular tremolo picking and all-out distorted chugging, while Colbert’s bass lines offer a heavyweight melodicism alongside Mowat’s dynamic sense of bombast. The group has become known for their intense live performances, enveloping audiences in an immersion of visual projections, dynamic riffs, decaying tape loops, and effect-laden walls of sound.
